
Constitution
Please note that there are some changes from Season 8 into Season 9. These changes are highlighted in Red.
A. The SVL is a Centralized Fantasy Baseball League utilizing the Diamond-Mind Baseball software engine. Founded in 2004, the league features 24 teams in two leagues and a total of six divisions.
B. The SVL is an interactive league and unique in many ways including a yearly draft using the 2011 season disk.
C. The Constitution and rules contained within provide the basis for the league and its structure. These rules will be reviewed on a yearly basis and changes will be made at the discretion of the commissioner. The goal at all times is to provide an environment of fairness, excitement, and realism in a manageable fashion.
II. Ownership
A. There is no monetary fee to join or participate in the SVL.
B. Owners and Assistant Owners may only be affiliated with one team at a given time.
C. Owners may have assistant(s) with the approval of the league office.
D. Owners are required to remain active in the league at all times. At a minimum, they must respond to league emails, update manager profiles, and show a commitment to the team.
E. Each Owner will select a city, team nickname, and a current major league stadium.
III. Player Eligibility
A. Team Pool
i. The SVL Player Selection Committee will predetermine which players from the 2011 season disk are eligible to be drafted.
1. Batters must have had at least 120 plate
appearances during the regular season to be available.
a. In order for a position player to be in the “everyday” lineup, he must have had at least 250 plate appearances. Position players with less than 250 plate appearances may start games due to injury or tired players only.
2. Pitchers must have pitched at least 25
innings during the regular season to be available.
a.
In order for a pitcher to start a game, he must have started at least 6 games during the 2011 season AND have pitched a
minimum of 60 innings. Pitchers who
pitched under 60 innings can only be used as relievers.
IV. SVL
Draft
A. Before the draft, each owner must select
4 players to retain from its prior season, in this case, Season 8.
a.
After the Keepers are announced, the draft will begin with teams drafting
remaining players.
b.
The Season 9 Draft will consist of 16 rounds. Rounds 1 and 2 will be in reverse order
of Season 8’s finish. The
remainder of the draft will be in “serpentine”
order (24-1 in round 3, 1-20 in round 4 and so on).
Rosters
A. Active Roster
i. Consists of exactly 25 players at all times.
ii. Active Rosters are required to have a minimum of two catchers and 10 pitchers at all times.
B. Farm System
i. Each team is allowed to have 7 players, in addition to their active roster, in their farm system.
C. Free Agents
i. Players who are not selected to be on a team will become free agents. Free agents can be signed at any time, but roster sizes must remain at 32.
V. SVL Calendar
A. Preseason
In season 9, we will not have a preseason schedule.
B. Regular Season
i. Begins as soon as rosters and manager profiles are set. Hopefully this will happen around December 20th, 2011.
ii. The SVL plays a 162 game season
iii. The schedule is determined using the DMB software and includes inter-league play.
iv. The SVL will use a Designated Hitter (DH) in one league, and the other league will not use the DH.
v. Injuries will occur at random during the Regular Season and Post Season.
vi. Manager Profiles (MP)
1. Owners must submit and maintain manager profiles as these instruct the computer how to manage your team.
2. Changes to the MP are made upon receipt.
C. Post Season
i. The three division champions automatically qualify for the playoffs. The top team in each league who is not a division winner also makes the playoffs as a wild card team.
ii. The top team in each division will earn home field advantage. The 2nd best division winner in each league will be the 2nd seed. The 3rd best division winner will be the 3rd seed. The wild-card team will always be the 4th seed. All post season series are Best of Seven, 2-3-2 format, with a day off when the series switches cities.
iii. There is a minimum of one off day between series.
iv. Injuries and fatigue are in effect at all times and carry into and throughout post-season play.
v. Post season rosters can be changed before each series, but never during a series.
VI. Transactions
A. Trades
i. Trading is allowed during the draft and remains effective until the trading deadline (60 regular season games remaining).
ii. Owners may trade only players on their 32 man roster.
iii. Trades can be rejected by the commissioner if they are deemed to be unfair.
B. Disabled List
i. Injured players may be placed on the Disabled List.
ii. Injured players may not be farmed.
iii. Injured players do take up an active roster space unless they are on the Disabled List.
iv. A player must occupy the Disabled List a minimum of 15 days retroactive to their injury date.
v. Owners must inform the league office when placing a player on the DL and they must inform the league office when removing a player from the DL. Otherwise, the commissioner will make the roster moves for the team.
